Breaking Dawn

Before I begin...

I was first introduced to the Twilight saga when working at Barnes and Noble and on the day Eclipse came out I noticed every pre-teen and high schooler picking up copies...so I thought, I should probably read them since I'm a Harry Potter junkie and this seems Teen books can be well thought out...or just plain awful.

I purchased all 3 novels at once and began reading Twilight on my break. Now...the writing was certainly mediocre. Adjective overkill, if you will. And the actual plot...which there really was no plot in Twilight...just, here's a girl, here's a boy, he's a vampire, she' falling for him...OOO the point of attack...she finds out he's a vampire...which the readers knew because it was advertised on the back...which in my opinion was a bad idea...then the rising action...3 random vampires show up...wayyy out of the blue...and find out the Cullens are hanging with a mortal...Climax...battle that was pretty over dramatic and seemed too forced...
New Moon tried to open us up to Jacob and it tried to add drama to the Edward/Bella romance by having Jake fall for Bella...Again the book was very mediocre with it's writing...and again, overdramatic...
Eclipse...she should have ended it with a 3rd book and not continued with 4...Eclipse should have been a finale to the series but alas...she wrote Breaking Dawn...

MY BREAKING DAWN REVIEW - SPOILER ALERT!

My review is negative. That's just for those of you who are expecting me to write something positive...

Honestly? Really? What a dumb ending to a mediocre series. This series is one of those Teen series that blew up because of it's vampire affairs and such. It could have just blown right on by like a lot of other mediocre teen novels.

The whole pregnancy thing...and the baby growing too fast. WHAT? Twilight actually had a nice true reality feel and I could tell as the series progressed we were losing it slowly but surely...and then we come across this book. All the vampires coming together for a battle all because of a baby...really? Stephenie you let me down.

And seeing all these other reviews from actual critics...you let a lot of us down.

I never felt for any of the characters because you never progressed character development...only with Bella and Edward...but everyone else just seemed to be there.
You released one book a year and honestly, it feels like you rushed this series.

I hope you learn with future novels to take your time.

J.K. Rowling certainly did...and if you ever compare yourself to her ever again I will smack you.
You are certainly no J.K. Rowling...

Midnight Sun is probably going to be a stinker...

However, I am looking forward to the Twilight film because the script (See my review), even though the dialogue is still mediocre, is full of imagery that seems like it will be a brilliant and beautiful film.

---

Please know that I am in no way the biggest fan of this series.

I found out about it, I read it.

All in all. It's just another book for my shelf.

Teen novels, like I said, can either go far, or fall flat.

This had a chance, but it fell flat.

Twilight Shooting Script

Michael, I know you're reading this, I just want to thank you for sending it to me.

I was told not to give too many spoilers away due to privacy of this script. But here we go...

It starts off very promising and very easy to understand for those who never read the books (I read them...), Michael agrees that as the script progesses it loses it's easy flow and becomes a complicated mess of cryptic dialogue, that only those who know the book will understand. The chemistry between Bella and Edward is certainly faster paced than the book, which prolonged a lot of it and it added to the literary tension. But since this is a movie, I understand, the intense dream sequences make up for it. The characters of James, Laurent, and Victoria are introduced early on in the film to add suspense in between all the romance and such. The scene at the Cullen residence is definitely a whole lot different, we do not see Edward at the piano, we do not see the Family history tapestry...which is interesting because all of these play important roles in New Moon...which was recently confirmed for 2010. The Cullen siblings, other than Alice and Edward, are not given much to do. Which is interesting because in the novel, we get a taste of their special skills and they do speak a lot. Jasper and Emmett have about 4 lines in the films entirety.

Sorry Michael, I love you buddy, BUT I'm sure on screen everything kicks ass. Because damn does that added sequence at the end really add to the suspense.

That's about it.

Hope you're all feeling a little teased.

My Illustrious Wasteland Review

Saw the show twice: opening night and the 2nd performance.

With a mix of glam rock and Broadway showtune this show is part musical theatre part rock show. Tod Kimbro took almost a decade to concoct this monstrous musical, costing nearly $30,000 to produce and boy is worthy of an Off-Broadway run. 7 of the songs come straight off of Tod's solo album 'Soundtrack to a Chemical Spill'.
This Distopian musical shows us what Earth will be like in the future: human brains are implanted with "Bio PCs" and history lessons in school consist of learning which celebrities were best dressed in People Magazine and what movie won the Academy for Best Picture. We meet Mogs, son of dead rock legend Lucifer Itch, his mom Loretta is addicted to anti-depressants since the world was declared officially depressed. The President Reverend MD was elected via online voting (this process was voted for through online voting, ironically enough).

We are introduced to Realists (the futures activist group that are against Bio PCs), and there's a disease known as Information Disease which has many symptoms and Mogs comes down with it.

Following so far? I hope so. The show, like the disease, is FULL of information but damn does it really add to the awesomeness.

The cast is energetic and while some vocalists are weaker than others, their acting makes up for it.

Hopefully this show makes it way to NYC...and soon.

The show is very reminiscent of Repo! The Genetic Opera...another show I love!

Twilight.

Michael Welch (Mike Newton), of the Twilight film emailed me about 15-20 minutes ago. Attached, was the official script for the film.

No, you're not getting it.

Review to come soon.

Damn it's beautiful.

Sex, Drugs, Rock n Roll, and of course Dancing...

Summer 2008 is not the best thing since sliced bread.
It has been a crazy mix of emotions. Many friendships lost and many overly dramatic happenings.

8 shows back to back and I am so sick of not having time to myself.

So I planned another Silent Rave.

AUGUST 1st, 2008
LOCH HAVEN PARK
7:05PM - Midnight.
Bring your iPods, mp3 players, CD players, and of course your friends.

These events are only as fun as you make them. So come on out and have fun.

Dress up, dress down, come in costume, or in your birthday suit and enjoy a night of dancing to your own tunes!

Glowsticks, glitter bombs, and confetti.
PLUR Kids, and Free Hugs Brigades are welcome!

Orlando isn't paradise.

I'm back home in Orlando and I sort of wish I wasn't.

It all started on the wrong foot...My flight was delayed by 4 hours.

My parents told me that I'm "too old for a vacation," and that I need to get a job to save up money while I'm home if I want to remain in New York.

I'm gonna get all angry here and I could give two shits. Honestly, they have no idea what I went through in New York City. I went through hell and stressed myself out so bad that I lost all control of myself academically, physically and emotionally.

I have been yelled out and criticized everyday since I've been home.

Basically, Fringe week is my only week of freedom.

You know what I have to say about that?

FUCK YOU.

It's been a while

I apologize for not posting as often as I used to.

I saw Glory Days on April 26th and good god was it awful. It was 90 minutes, no intermission of horrendous story and monotonous pop music. The story: 4 guys meeting up for the first time since they graduated high school, now in the summer before sophomore year of college they want to make themselves known to the school they went to. They want to stand up to the jocks, and be cool. So they decide to time the sprinklers to turn on during the huge football game the night after they meet. A shocking secret tears them apart.

Hello...you're out of high school...What a lame idea. And...the shocking secret was a boy coming out.
Glory Days closed opening night.

I just saw Saved! The Musical this evening. Hilarious. The movie is still better, but the musical is so funny. The music is great and the acting is so full of emotion and so pure. I will be seeing it again tomorrow night.

---

In other news, the end of the school year has arrived. I will be home in 5 days. Scary. I have so much to do. But I am so ready to come home. I mean, I love New York City, but there's only so much I can handle.

A lot has been going through my mind lately, some things are kind of scaring me. Oh and so the grand total of boys who turned me down this semester...4. Hooray!

I ended up going to my schools end of the year formal, Boat Dance. We cruise on a boat for 3 hours and dance and party and drink. Not so fun. Granted, I was intoxicated, but still not fun.

I've been listening to Next to Normal a lot lately and it's bringing up all the emotions I felt when I saw the show. Emotions I haven't felt in a very long time and it's making me vulnerable enough to grow feelings for people because I feel needy. Which is a terrible thing.

Damn you.

So much to say!

I went to the April 18th Silent Rave in Union Square. WOW. Loads of fun.
I'm currently planning the Orlando Silent Rave. Check out the blog below!

Now for some awesome stuff. I went to the Cry-Baby Opening Night Performance and VIP After Party. I sat in the front row and was surrounded by celebrities such as Ricki Lake, Debbie Harry (Blondie), Miss Guy, John Waters, Kathleen Turner, Johnny Depp, Matthew Morrison and TONS more. They were SO nice to meet and talk to, it was insane.

The show went very well (7th time seeing it). The party was held at the Mansion on 28th and 10th. Ridiculous. It was High School Picnic themed and they had entertainers dressed as lunch ladies, Drapes, Squares, Doctors, Nurses, Inmates, and hookers. It was AWESOME.
We received gift bags to fill up as the night went on. There were stations like the Kissing Booth (sponsored by none other than Altoids),  A Doctor's office, a bakery, a salon, hula hoop exhibits, and get your picture taken with you head on a cardboard bride and groom body. The cake will be featured on Ace of Cakes on the Food Network. The cake was the entire town of Baltimore with drapes and squares kissing and dancing, little houses, and railroad tracks. Insane.

For those wondering, the Producers gave me the tickets to the event. I saw the show for the 6th time and I was approached by one of the producers and he asked me if I could give him my name, number and email. And sure enough I got a call from him and he gave me 2 tickets to the show and 2 VIP passes. I walked with them down the red carpet with my date. Got our photo's taken on the red carpet with the Cry Baby layout background. Rick and David introduced me to quite a lot of Broadway celebs. We had some drinks together. Debbie Harry was a DOLL. She looks  mean, but she is SOO cool.

"This Moment is More Precious than You Think"

Keep your eyes glued to Broadway.com and Broadwayworld.com for Seussical's official online blog and open rehearsal footage! The press has been there almost every rehearsal and they love it. I Ahrens and Flaherty (the writers of Seussical) and what a joy it was. They're currently rewriting a bit of things and adding in old stuff that didn't make it into the original licensed show.
So if you come see Seussical, it will be a production you've never seen or heard.

Also, for those who did not know CBGB's legendary clothing store located on St. Marks in the East Village is closing FOR GOOD on June 30th. If you live in the city, go stop by, show your love and support.

Today, my friend Amanda and I went down to the East Village for a bit of bohemian life. I met De La Vega today and let me tell you...His words have inspired and saved my life. His words are what keep me going and wanting this career more and more and meeting him today was a true blessing. I can't describe the emotion I felt when shaking his hand and when speaking to him. He is the most inspiring and beautiful person I have ever met.

Google his work James De La Vega.
Buy a shirt, wear it, inspire others, and introduce De La Vega into the lives of your friends and enemies.

Good morning...

A little side note before I get up and get ready for class. Well, Flopz n' Cutz 4 was Sunday night.
For those who don't know, it's the yearly concert of songs from shows that didn't quite make it to Broadway, Broadway Flops, and songs cut from long running Broadway musicals.

Well there was a raffle going on...and the items were left unknown until it came time to announce the numbers. I purchased 6 tickets in hopes to land one hell of a prize. The first item, a package of Gay Porn, the production company donates a lot of money to the charity Flopz n' Cutz benefits (a no kill dog shelter), then there was a basket of flop musical demos and cds and posters, I was hoping to win that, but alas, did not. Then came a bunch of signed Benefit posters of past Charity events held by the group that does Flopz n' Cutz, and alas I didn't win that.

Finally the 2 last things, a complete signed poster for Rags, and a FRAMED POSTER OF CARRIE THE MUSICAL. Yeah...I peed my pants.

Well, sitting in my room IS the framed Carrie poster. I was the lucky winner, and honestly, when the called my ticket, I nearly had a heart attack and I began to cry.

6 years...6 YEARS...I have loved this show.
I've now got the Workshop, London, and Broadway scripts, the London an Broadway sheet music, a Broadway Opening Night Playbill, the act 1 Broadway video, the London video, the rehearsal, news, and commercial footage, the Broadway audio, the demo tape, the workshop audio, the hilarious rehearsal audio when Debbie Allen secretly says into the tape recorder "this music is shit, he won't let me take over, asshole...", the emerson college video, the stagedoor video, and the Broadway poster, all i need is the Danish audio, the souvenir program, and the London, and Broadway Flyer...

Yes, I am a Carrie fanatic.

[Untitled]

[Title of Show] is coming to Broadway this summer. What a journey that show has been through.
Glad to see it finally is making it's home on the Great White Way, hooray for original musicals.
---

For those who don't know, I have been cast as Horton the Elephant in the TheatreWorks Off-Broadway revival of Seussical the Musical. 1st day of rehearsal was this morning. What an exciting bunch of people this cast is made up of. So I will be staying in the city and earning my equity card.

Things are certainly looking up.

Sophie.

I put Sophie out yesterday evening. Sophie being my Iron Fairy. I sprinkled her with Fairy Dust and followed the specific directions.

I come home from class today (gone from 7am-5:35pm) only to find her in a different position than when I left her. The Fairy Dust was sprinkled all over my room, and today has just been a wonderful day.

I don't know what to make of this whole repositioning thing, because only I have a key to my room, and service did not come to my room today. Whoa.

Just to clear the air...

I went through quite the rough patch. But things are going much more smooth than before. I promise. And a lot of people heard/read that I was not going to continue here in the city next year. BUT...After really thinking it over, I am going to stay and go to MMC. Also, I have been cast as Horton the Elephant in the Off-Broadway production being put on by TheatreWorks USA. Rehearsals begin in 2 weeks. I couldn't be more excited!

I went on an excursion again to Chinatown with my friend Megan. We found some good stuff. I went birthday shopping for Jenna. But I will not say what I found for her. =). I also have a new obsession...Death Note is the craziest anime/movie ever.

I went to the Village with some friends last night and they brought me to The Iron Fairy. The only one in the US. It's an entire store devoted to fairies. There are naughty and nice fairies and each has a name and their own story and personality. You can get assistance on how to choose the fairy that is right for you. I was informed that I am most like Sophie, a nice fairy who wants to put a smile on everyone's faces and wants to grant wishes for everyone. I purchased her of course. I also picked up a copy of the book they sell which explains every fairy and details the land they live in. What a beautiful store.

REVIEW TIME.

Monday 3/24. CRY BABY
Currently in previews. Contrary to most of the theatre goers opinions on the show...I loved it. Sure it has issues, but what show doesn't? That's why we have previews. This show infact has 5 weeks of previews. The music was VERY catchy. The show is VERY campy. I mean, it's John Waters. Lenora, played by Alli Mauzy really steals the show with her wacky portrayal of an obsessive mental case who loves Cry Baby. Elizabeth Stanley as Allison also steals the show, and boy, does she have some belting pipes. Harriet Harris as the Grandmother was perfect. The entire show is screaming with energy and the choreography is worthy of a Tony nod, it's quite amazing. I will be seeing it again to see what will be cut and what will make the final product.

Saturday. 3/29. 8pm. WICKED
Stephanie J. Block and the Glinda U/S Katie Adams (who was amazing) were on. Great performances. However, the Madame Morrible didn't sing at all, she rhythmically spoke her words...it was very annoying. You can also see how bored the actors feel, other than the 2 leading ladies. The ensemble just doesn't look like they want to be there. It was kind of upsetting. The special effects were not very effective, you could tell how poorly staged they were, with long pauses between the motion for the action and the action itself.
I won't be seeing this show again anytime soon.

Sunday. 3/30 5pm. THE CASTLE.
Whoa. 4 people. 4 stories. The 4 "actors" were actually ex-inmates of "The Castle" a prison in New England. They each told their story and how they live "outside the castle walls". This was the 1st performance ever of the show. It was absolutely mind blowing. Meeting these 4 people after the show was the most amazing thing in my opinion. I can't say the storylines without ruining the entire show. But wow.

Monday. 3/31. 8pm CRY BABY
1 week later. Still a preview. A lot of Broadway stars were in attendance this evening. And sitting next to me was the Original Movie Wanda (a character from Cry Baby). Behind me and my friend was Paige and Marco from Degrassi, and the cast of Xanadu, and a few of the Altar Boyz were there.
Many things have been changed. An entire song was cut, replaced with a reprise sung by Allison where she belts like whoa and it really brings out the yearning of her character. They also rearranged a song to come later in the first act. Which really flows a lot better. They cut a few lines here and there, which add to the flow.
The original time of act one on the 24th was almost 2 hours and this time around it was 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Tory Ross (Pepper) informed that another song will is gonna be cut and it's being replaced tomorrow night.

I am seeing the show tomorrow night again. So expect another review with notes on changes.

Zines, Reviews, SB 08.

It's been a while. My apologies. During the month of March in the city, I picked up a silly addiction. Zines. Those little underground comics, or propaganda booklets published by grunge artists, anarchists, and those still living in the 77 era. I walked into a music store down in the East Village and found a couple of really good ones. A re-imagining of the banned "Anarchists Cookbook", an essay on Veganism, and a couple of cute comics with emo kids who sip coffee and talk about the lack of love in their lives. I said "cute", but really, they are.

Review time.

COME BACK LITTLE SHEBA 3/11 8pm.
I went in not knowing the story or characters, all I can say is Lola. Lola, my love. What a damn good character for a grown woman to play, a washed up Beauty Queen, married to a guy for one reason. Wow. Inge. What a damn good playwright. The set was beautiful, the storyline was so controversial for it's time (it premiered in 1950), the actors were so great together. And the emotional connection, from start to finish was burning. This show closed on March 16.
This gets the Tony for Best Revival of a Play. Hands down.

PASSING STRANGE 3/12 8pm.
How does one even connect this show to the genre of musical theatre? It's absolutely incredible. You have Stew, the lead sing of a band, telling his life story through songs his band wrote, and next thing you know...actors appear to re-tell the story through dialogue, and they become part of the music. And honestly, if people thought the music of Spring Awakening was "not-so-musical" go see Passing Strange and from start to finish, you'll think you were re-living The Beatles, the 77 Punk and Rock Era, and you'll think you were in a beautiful jazz club dancing the night away.

NEXT TO NORMAL 3/13 8pm.
Way to go. All I have to say is that. For personal reasons, I love this show. It was a remarkable never before seen  story in a musical. A musical all about suicide/depression/shizophrenia/and electro-shock therapy and a family. It made me remember a lot of my past and a lot of the emotional times I went through. This show closed on March 16. Thank you Next to Normal.

SB 08.
I'm home, spending my days with friends. Going to clubs, going to movies, doing dinners, and having sleepovers. I miss my friends. I convinced my parents to let me stay over Easter Weekend, so I am now home until monday.

My sister had her baby. Rylee Jeanne is FINALLY here. She's beautiful. My sister and her fiancee Silas are gonna make very good parents.

It's been a while!

IDINA MENZEL LECTURE/CONCERT 2/26
Amazing. Front row seat. She performed cut songs from her album, shared with us stories of ho she started out (a Snapple Commercial...which she got fired from when she was 8).
Bought her CD. Got it autographed. And had a wonderful conversation with her about her Chess Concert coming up.

LITTLE MERMAID AT THE DISNEY STORE 2/28
Bought the CD and saw Sierra Bogess and Tituss Burgess perform songs from the show. And there was a Q&A session with Sherie Rene Scott, Tituss, Seirra, the guy who plays Scuttle, and Flotsam.  It was fun. Then the CD signing came. Everyone signed, Sherie Rene looked like she didn't want to be there...but then again, I wouldn't want to be there signing autographs for screaming babies and photographers invading your space...
However...
She never looks happy, or nice for that matter.
Geez.

AVENUE Q AUDITION 2/29
I went to the audition early in the morning. I was number 45. It was SO much fun! They loved me. I got called in 3 times. And had to put on multiple character voices, and become my favorite animal. SO MUCH FUN. Well they called me on monday, I got a callback in 2 weeks after my spring break.

XANA-NITE part 1 2/29
The Midnight Society watched Xanadu, in preparation for the show on saturday. We had a wonderful time bashing out trippy it was. The cartoon sequence. Hilarious.

XANA-NITE part 2 3/1
Took Hayden, Amanda, Megan, Casey, Stephanie, and myself to Xanadu. On-stage of course. Fun times. They had never seen the show before, well Steph did but not on-stage. They had a blast and at the end of the show they each turned to me and said "Can we please come again." We met the cast afterwards, and they loved Kerry and Cheyenne. We danced and laughed our heads off.

LEGALLY BLONDE CAMP OUT 3/1-3/2
Camped out in Times Square for student rush tickets to see Haven Burton perform Elle Woods for the 1st time. She's the new understudy. I arrived on the scene at 2:45am and they was about 13 people there. Ridiculous. But awesome at the same time. They were a bit obsessed with the show...so it was kind of awkward, because, while I like the show...it's not the greatest and it lacks a lot.
I experienced the drunken tourists, and was asked "What are you waiting for?" about 100 times. It was silly. However, tourists gave us food. It was great.

Tickets were released at noon, and I got my two that I needed. Front row for the 7pm show.

FARNSWORTH INVENTION CLOSING DAY PERFORMANCE 3/2 3pm.
I will miss this play. Honestly. What an amazing piece of history this play made. Like I said about the show before, never will a historical drama like this come about in our generation. Maybe, but it's doubtful. The entire cast gave an emotional last performance, keeping it in until the final scene.

LEGALLY BLONDE HAVEN-ELLE PERFORMANCE 3/2 7pm.
Haven Burton. Haven. Burton. Truly hilarious and sooo adorable. She really gave it her all and really made Elle Woods a whole new character. Her own -isms were adorable. "OKAY!" and the knee slap. YES. She looked gorgeous in her costumes and that girl can sing.
I hope to see her as Elle again.

XANADU 3/4 7pm
Took Frankie, Liz, Catherine, and myself to Xanadu. They changed a line to suit Gypsy opening next door. GREATEST LINE EVER. "Short and happy? Come on...Next door over at Gypsy, Patti LuPone hasn't alienated her first daughter yet!" They had a great time. Loving everything about the 80's spoof musical.

Went to a private Spring Awakening Audition. THAT was awkward. But went very, very well. I had to do things that stretched my acting ability and they were pleased. I should hear back soon.

HELLO AGAIN at MMC 3/5  8pm.
Ok, the show has it's good moments, but in all, it's boring. Not as shocking as it's hype was. The voices and acting was under par. The tech was beautiful, the set and the lighting. Wow. But the performances were mediocre. The women, overpowering the men vocally and performance overall. The Husband annoyed me, he couldn't hide his speech impediment, and couldn't hide his feministic side. It was annoying during the his sequences.

SPRING AWAKENING 3/6 8pm.
Again. Not a show that lived up to it's hype. I sat on-stage, and you could barely hear the actors because the band overpowered them. As opposed to Xanadu where, the singing is equal with the band. I'm not a fan of the on-stage seats. I felt like I was pressured to stay quiet, I couldn't clap, laugh, or make a noise. I did have one of the "normal dressed teens" sitting next to me. It was awkward. It actually made me uncomfortable sitting on-stage at that show. And the new Ilse, while she can sing, she wears the ensemble bob wig, because she's got short hair. She's not Ilse looking. The new Moritz, is not as endearing at John Gallagher Jr.

I am in no way, an SA Fan...

----
So that's life in a nutshell. Shows. Shows. Shows.
School is going well, I just want spring break here right now.

"To Part With You, More Than I Can Bear."

2pm.
Having never seen the show before and only hearing 1 song before entering that theatre, I had goosebumps the entire time. Zonya Love as Celie, Montego Glover as Nettie and at the 2pm peformance Lakisha Jone (of American Idol 2007) as Sophie. Oh my God. The music was beauty, the staging was flawless. I have never cried while watching a musical before, even seeing Rent, I didn't cry. But Color Purple had me. I bawled. Zonya Love is quite possibly the best Broadway Debut actress I have EVER seen and I expect to see her on the stage again very soon.

At the stage door when I she came out, I stared at, and began to cry. She grabbed me, and hugged me real tight. I will never forget the words she whispered in my ear. I know that someday I will be on a broadway stage making my Broadway debut. Thank you Zonya saying what you said, to me. We exchanged our names (finally after all that crying on her shoulder), and she gave me her e-mail to keep in touch as we parted ways.

7:30pm
The final performance. Oprah was there. The director sat in my Box Seat with me. The Preacher belted and held out his opening number rifts for about 3 minutes (as opposed to 30 seconds like it's written in the music). He said "One last time y'all let's make it good." And the audience roared with applause and some of us gave the number standing ovation. It was marvelous. Chaka Khan was on as Sophie for the evening and Lakisha assumed the role of the church soloist. I prefer Lakisha as Sophie SO MUCH MORE. Chaka didn't know her lines...

At the stage door for the final show, a security guard came out asking everyone "Is there a Sean Flynn out here?" and I was like "that's me!" and he said "Zonya would like you to come with me." and i went backstage, people were JEALOUSSSS. And She gave me a backstage tour, a shirt, and the entire cast signed poster. We sat in her dressing room and talked for about 30 minutes as she gathered all her belonings and cleared out the room.
She held my hand as we exited the stage door together. And we were escorted to a car and brought to 77th for the after-party.

The entire cast was there, the director and writer of the show and I had a wonderful conversation about the show. Zonya and I danced. I hung out with Ruby and Jenny, the twin sisters who played Young Celie and Young Nettie. Those two seriously so adorable!!

I had one hell of an evening. Chaka Khan actually talked to me. I almost died.

Show reviews and the Midnight Society

THE SEAGULL 2/20. Starring Diane Wiest and Alan Cumming. Directed by Slava. Amazing. Truly amazing. The cast worked so well together. The set, the lighting, the sound, everything just worked with this show. I will be back to see it on closing night (this was the 1st preview).

---

I kind of didn't go to any classes this week. I feel terrible. I am SO behind on schoolwork. I've got a paper due tomorrow for my Woman: Writer/Subject/Audience course. I still need to run over to the library at school to pick up an article and write about it's arguments. It snowed on friday, campus closed at 3pm. Saw a show with Amanda...

---

THE FARNSWORTH INVENTION. 2/22. Never will a show like this come around again. A historical drama about the 20th century's most popular and most useful invention, the television. Starring Hank Azaria, and Jimmi Simpson. Two competitors in the invention of TV revisited the story, via television (very interestingly done theatrically). A farmboy (Jimmi) and a tough comm. executive (Hank). Which one will win? From the invention, to the court case that settled it all. Amazing.

Hayden, Amanda and I have formed The Midnight Society, we meet weekends, stay up all night and watch movies (horror, or comedy) and we just chill in the lounge until the sun comes up.
It's not very healthy. I need to sleep.
But it's something fun to do with friends.

Multiple Show Reviews

XANADU. 2/16/08 2pm.
Good times. Finally saw Kerry Butler (I got stuck with her u/s last time).
What a feel good show. Cheyenne Jackson was fab as always.
And of course the dynamic duo Jackie Hoffman and Mary Testa are fierce.
The cast told me they couldn't stop talking about me backstage, they said that they love that I sit on-stage because they enjoy seeing my adorable smile up close.
I love that show. I made friends with the SM and she's hooking me up with free tickets.

Made an attempt to score lottery seats for IN THE HEIGHTS. But lost. My friend Danielle joined me on an exciting race to every theatre on 44th to see what shows had good seats left. We got killer seats for...

ROCK 'N' ROLL. 2/16/08 8pm
Holy crap. Had no clue what this Tom Stoppard play would be about. Boy, was it one hell of a play. 1968-2006. Prague has just been invaded. Music is being banned. It's a historical drama about the history of a group people mixed with the history of Rock and Roll. A Trevor Nunn favorite, the turntable set, and the use of an awesome projection screen curtain. The songs blared before each scene setting up the mood for what was to happen next. Starring Rufus Sewell (The bad guy in most of his films: Tristan and Isolde, Bless the Child, etc.), he was quite a treat. Also starring Brian Cox. Yes, THE Brian Cox. X-Men. Yeah. Haha.

Danielle and I saw...

AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY 2/19/08 7:30pm
Best. Play. On. Broadway.
End of story. lol. Fucking fierce.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

It tried to make Broadway AND theatrical history with being the first ever fully African American cast production....

But it failed.

Debbie Allen should not and I emphasis SHOULD NOT direct a damn show.

The actors were playing stereotypes, which made the story truly unbelievable.
The show was lost in translation. The interpretation was just every where.

And...the fact that they were playing stereotypes made the audience believe it to be a comedy.
They laughed...at every single fight.

They laughed with Terrence Howard proclaimed in his pivotal scene that he was not a "fag".

Terrence played the stereotypical drunk.

The fights were stereotyped as comical.

It was awful.

Sean is sick...

I auditioned for the Senior Directing Projects on the 11th.
I performed my Dog Sees God monologue. Kicked ass at it, by the way.
At 11:45pm and 1am I received phone calls for call backs.

I missed classes today because my body is so weak.
I don't know what is wrong, I thought it was a cold, but I can barely move.
My head is spinning like a Disney Tea Cup. My nose, chest, and my ears are congested. I hate that my ears begin to pop when I am sick.

It snowed...all...day...today.

Call backs were great.
The Brecht piece I got called back for is can either be really good, or it will really suck.
The callback: We had to do our audition monologue over again, then do once more but change the "I" 's and such and narrate our monologues, saying "you" and such. It was very difficult. I pulled it off after standing there and thinking for a moment.
Then I was told to read for the character Uriah. And got another call back for saturday at 9am.

The Henley piece is unbelievable.
I connected to the character the moment I began reading that script earlier today. Oh. My. God. John Richards Polk. What a great character. What a cute show.
The callback: 3 scenes, 1 monologue (all from the show). Kate seemed to like me. Oh God I hope she does. I want that show.

As I left the call backs, I walked outside...and the snowfall turned to sleet, it felt like tiny needles pricking at my face as I walked today. By the time evening came, the inch thick snow that planted itself on the ground had turned to a nasty slush. Needless to say, there was water in my shoes. It was awful.

Snow.

That's all I can say is...Snow. I was chatting away online with a friend when she immediately says OH MY GOD! IT'S SNOWING. I freak out, pull open my blinds and there it was. In a matter of minutes the sunny sky turned dark and the wind began to blow, and the snow came down. Heavy amounts too. What a sight.
She ran to my room, we opened my window and snapped photos and got all giggly. It was quite a good time. We decided to go
down into the streets to get some hands on shots, and as we reached the lobby, the first wave slowed down. But that's okay, we got some fun shots in the smaller wave of snow. Megan and Amanda came down and we decided to hit up Dunkin Donuts. And sure enough, as we were finishing our coffee and donuts, the 2nd wave hit. It was sheer madness, the wind calmed, the sky went from sunny to dark again, and 1 snowflake came down and I said "Oh look it's snowing again" and then boom, the window picke
d up and the 2nd wave hit. It was crazier than last time. What an awesome time.

It's been a wonderful 48 hours...

These past two days have been the reason why I moved to this city.
To see the wonderful things this place has to offer.

Yesterday my friends Megan, Amanda and I went to the village to see a screening of Southland Tales, the new Richard Kelly movie (Donnie Darko fame). The film was absolutely amazing. Definitely a different direction for Richard Kelly but same time-travel themes and such. We took the subway (the 6 to the V) and walked through the lovely Lower East Side. We visited vintage clothing stores, tattoo parlors, the awesome bohemian markets full of jewelers and such.

I visited my first New York City sex shop WITH a peep show in the back. THAT was interesting. But seriously fun. Had coffee at a TRUE coffee joint with those beatnik mugs the size of bowls. It was lovely. Spot's Cafe, check it out. The theatre is located on 3rd st. off of Ave. A. Two Boots Pioneer Theatre. This small indie joint. The theatre was a small screening room a very different feel from those mainstream places.

We went to an Afghani Restaurant for hookah and drinks and of course authentic Afghani cuisine. Unbelievable. What an awesome place to go to. I forget the name of it, but it's at St. Mark's Place.

Today, Megan and I decided to visit Chinatown. We walked through the REAL deal Chinatown, not the touristy knock-off areas, but the actual Asian markets that sold authentic imports and the we walked through the fish markets and the food district. We both purchased a knock-off item, a Prada briefcase for me, a coach wallet for her. I also snagged Juno, There Will Be Blood, Sweeney Todd, and Enchanted on DVD (Juno and TWBB were SAG copies...so the real deal, not filmed from a theatre, but burned copies of the DVDs sent to SAG members...LUCKY!!!)

We then went to the Elizabeth Center, now...this place u go down an escalator inside a building you're immediately transported into an Asian Mall. Honestly, a handful of shops that sold authentic Asian imports (anime, manga, sanrio, jewelry, clothes, etc) it was amazing.

Tonight my friends Megan, Caroline, and Danielle went to Chelsea to visit my good high school friend Catherine Garrison and to experience the NYC Rocky Horror Picture Show Cast. Now, keep in mind, The Rich Weirdoes are my loves. I tried not to be bias, but the NYC Cast did not have the energy, nor did they keep character during their performances. Orlando has the BEST of the BEST working on RHPS and NYC has some very not-so-into-it people. It made me miss the Rich Weirdoes even more.

Some serious photos are coming soon.

But for now this is all I have for you.

xoxo,
Sean.

Super Bowl Sunday

45 seconds left in the game and the miracle of miracles happened. The Giants scored, and won the game with 2 seconds left.

As I exited the school grounds and got onto the streets of Manhattan, the screams and shouts were heard up and down the busy streets. Cars were stopped people were running, shouts were endless.
I neared 2nd and 71st and might I just say, what I saw was the most amazing site. New Yorkers piled in the streets, news casters, cars with people jumping on the hoods, people hanging out their windows shouting. It was amazing. I kept hearing people say "It's wonderful to see everyone so happy" and it's true. New Yorkers are stereotyped as being mean and shallow. Well, today, I saw the true side of a New Yorker, a nice, genuine person. They hugged and kissed everyone that passed. It was awesome.

Post-Game drinks were in order so me, Danielle, Daniel, and some others headed over to Tequila Jacks and had a few beers. What a night.

I won the "Root Beer Pong" game with Danielle...$20 bucks to Best Buy.
And I got a gift card to H&M for the trivia challenge. Yeah I own.

Tonight was wonderful.

The Sea of Love

So after having numerous discussions with my parents and friends. I have determined that maybe, there is more to Marymount than just school. I mean, while it may be stressful...I still have the best friends here. The Transfer Bunch, we call ourselves. Sean, Frankie, Megan, and Cherisse. They live on the girls floor below me and basically, we love each other and they are determined to have me stay. And I think that is quite possibly the best choice. I should just stick with what I have.

For those that are confused, I began having second thoughts on if Marymount was right for me. Classes are so stressful and are quite the workload. But you know what? I should let the others pass me by and focus on my schooling.

I applied for an internship and I am dying to get it. I want it so bad. The Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment Group. An intern needed to schedule events, and give tours of the Nederlander Entertainment sponsored Broadway theatres. Pre-requisites: Someone who has worked in theatre management, someone who is very familiar with theatre history. Yes that is me.

Back to a heavy note, my Stagecraft teacher informed the class I was a young, uninformed, and a "just starting out" actor because I have the Stanislavski Method Trilogy, and I own the Kristin Linklater speech and voice books.

Right...Gary Levinson, You've been teaching at Marymount for 6-7 years and you don't t realize that the acting instructors of Marymount Manhattan instruct their students in the ways of Stanislavski and Kristin Linklater. If they were for young, uninformed actors, then why are the books still praised among the older acting crowd? Thanks.

My first time...

Alrighty! I have a real blog! This is exciting! Well, I shall begin with an introduction. My name is Sean Flynn, I'm a college sophomore who just recently transferred from an Orlando, FL community college to Marymount Manhattan College in New York. I'm a double major in Acting and Directing and I am minoring in Musical Theatre. I must admit, the move to New York City was very hard for me. I mean, I love the city. But...I have so many memories in Florida and so many beautiful friends. I miss them so much. I am dorming at the 92nd Y and I must say. A single dorm, on a floor where there are parties until 4am...is not what I wanted. I wanted to live on 55th and 3rd with the suitemates and the awesome view. But hey, you can't always get what you want. And judging by what I saw...the people that live there...are not the people I want to become friends with. I mean, same goes for here (de Hirsch is what they call it).
I apologize for the lengthy introduction. But you have to know what to expect from me, I'm a Theatre major, I love attention. Anyway, Marymount. It's quite the school. Definitely a workload (as I have learned on the 2nd day of class).

I'm really glad I made one of these. This should be exciting! I guess, join me on my journey of discovering what New York City has to offer me.

-Sean Flynn.
